Jaipur Gate
Jaipur Gate
Given to Queen Victoria by the Maharaja of Jaipur in 1886 the structure had suffered extensive decay. Standing for many years outside the Hove Museum water had ingressed into the teak columns and created substantial rot pockets. The whole structure was carefully numbered, dismantled, removed back to our yard, repaired and re-assembled back on site. The elaborately carved surfaces of the columns were cut away from the decayed beam core and then bonded back onto new solid teak columns. New carved sections were made where un-repairable, and lead flashings and weatherings formed to get water off the structure safely.
