Chithurst Monastery – Oak Framed Dharma Hall

This 9 bay aisled green oak barn frame serves as the home of the Chithurst Buddhist community. The intention was to create a tranquil space redolent of the Thai forests from which the particular tenet of Buddhism practiced at Chithurst originated. We used an early historic carpentry ss type called a Crown Post that allowed us to create tiers of braces forming ‘branches’ in the oak roof structure.
