The Barn – Little West End Farm, a Timber Frame Barn House

One of the reasons for building a timber frame barn house is to exploit the beauty of the carpentry in creating open trussed roofs, galleried landings, glazed screens, gables and so on. Look through the living room to the green oak conservatory beyond that forms an extension to the dining area. The barn house offers beautiful open plan living, creating a warm, attractive environment.

Building an oak frame barn house allows us to use the carpentry detailing of a barn porch. The roof of the porch pitches onto the main roof with ‘lay-boards’ set over the main roof rafters, which is what you see here. The timber frame was carefully fabricated by our carpenters over six weeks in our framing yard, and then taken to site. The timber frame was erected by our carpenters and takes a very short time to complete – about seven days – which is a very exciting time for the owners.  The barn house is then ready for cladding by your builder. You can see this barn house timber frame has been sandblasted which makes the oak timber frame this beautiful honey colour.

This house makes use of a neat glazing system where the high performance double glazed units are fitted over the oak timber frame itself and a dry oak cap is fixed over the outside. This makes for a very neat detail and excellent thermal performance.
