We believe that early collaboration may help a project reach its full potential.
Whatever form your timber structure may take be it post and beam, glulam portal, geodesic, etc, a conversation with us could help your project get onto the right tracks. We can give advice on the following:
1. Timber Species
What timber species are suitable with regard to appearance, cost, strength, and durability, given the project parameters, also the pros and cons of solid versus glulam and other engineered timber products. We can produce samples as required and discuss issues such as FSC certification and other environmental concerns.
2. Build-ability and Cost
As the design evolves we can give real time advice on the ease of construction and associated costs to enable the project to be kept on budget.
3. Structural Issues
We usually undertake the structural engineering of our timber frames, however, we are also happy to work with your own engineer. As the frame forms the principle skeletal structure of the building and given the variability of timber as a material we can develop timber grading rules to allow appropriate specifications to be produced for the sawyer. With our wealth of knowledge of timber jointing both with and without steel we can discuss and advise on the structural and appearance characteristics of various joint types.
4. Detailed Design
We can advise on the best method of glazing and forming the envelope of timber structures and where required appropriate detailing for abutments to masonry. The correct relationship of the frame to the wall build up or envelope is vital whatever type of system is chosen be it straw bale, hempcrete, SIP, masonry, timber stud or warmcell, etc, to achieve a good level of thermal performance and air tightness.
5. External Components
Where a structure may have an externally exposed porch, columns, over-sailing gables, etc, we can advise on detailing to ensure longevity and the best method for connection onto or through the envelope.
If cladding is timber we can advise on species, appearance, cost and longevity, as well as correct detailing for the conversion of the boards and the fixing details. Sometimes a Tudor style in-filled panel system is required. Here we have a wealth of knowledge and some really useful suggestions as to how to achieve this without compromising envelope performance. We can also produce samples for approval.

"Thank you for the frame that you have just finished at Rogate. It was a miserable wet day, yesterday and John and team carried on regardless. We are delighted with the overall look and also the mouldings to the members. As usual, the frame was millimetre accurate and will be easy to take forward to complete the building."Bob, Trembath Associates
"Just to say that it looks fabulous, and all who survey it are wonder-struck. Best wishes and many thanks to you all."Simon, National Trust
"We have constructed several buildings using Oak frames designed, manufactured and erected by the Green Oak Carpentry Company. We are pleased to confirm that their work is accurate, well detailed and delivered on time. They are knowledgeable and we find working with them easy and straight forward. We therefore have no hesitation in recommending them."Robert, Trembath Associates
"I wanted to drop you a quick note to show my appreciation for your guys efforts today; they were a pleasure to have around the house and worked hard to get the frame up today."Paul, Contracts Manager
"Seems a long time since we finished with the garden room project but we have to say that it has been a huge success in every aspect. The room has become the place of choice for visitors. I can guarantee that everyone, yes everyone who visits, is blown away by the frame."Mel, Moat Farm
