This is a substantial extension to a 19th C. farm labourers cottage built entirely as an oak frame. Glazed gables bring light into the interior at high level. (Photography: Duncan McNichol)
The original structure was ironstone and brick. Many of the external faces of the bricks had the paw prints of a kitten whose perambulations across the brick drying racks appears to have been viewed with equanimity. (Photography: Duncan McNichol)
Painted softwood joinery blends well with the natural terracotta of the brick and tile and weatherboarding, which will in time weather to a sliver-grey colour. (Photography: Duncan McNichol)
A traditional farmhouse style kitchen with a beamed ceiling creates a spectacular open plan living space. The common floor joists are lined with colour washed larch boarding. (Photography: Duncan McNichol)
Creating a seating alcove for the family and friends to sit adjacent to the cooking area does much to bring the preparation of food into the heart of the home. Note the glazed screen and door giving access into the conservatory beyond. (Photography: Duncan McNichol)
Above the kitchen the oak frame creates a magnificent master bedroom which is a storey and a half to create a more intimate feel to the space. The frame was inspired by a farmhouse in the Mayenne district of France discovered whilst on holiday. Again colour washed larch boarding has been used over the common rafters of the frame to create a beautiful finish. (Photography: Duncan McNichol)
A Juliette balcony with inward opening doors allows the warm summer evenings to be enjoyed when the opportunity allows. The wardrobe is Sycamore with woven panels of thin strips of timber. (Photography: Duncan McNichol)

“"Seems a long time since we finished with the garden room project but we have to say that it has been a huge success in every aspect. The room has become the place of choice for visitors. I can guarantee that everyone, yes everyone who visits, is blown away by the frame."
Mel, Moat Farm
“"Just a quick note to say thank you for sending such a great team to do the work. As well as clearly being very hardworking and hugely skilled, Mick, Andy, Clark and Dave were all exceptionally pleasant, considerate and cheerful guys to have around, and as such a huge credit to Green Oak."
Julia, Crabfields Farm
“"Thank you for the frame that you have just finished at Rogate. It was a miserable wet day, yesterday and John and team carried on regardless. We are delighted with the overall look and also the mouldings to the members. As usual, the frame was millimetre accurate and will be easy to take forward to complete the building."
Bob, Trembath Associates
“"Thanks for the excellent job which has just been completed on the Oak Frame extension to the above property. Not only is the quality of the work faultless, it is a true work of art, which will bring endless enjoyment to me and my wife. The end result has surpassed our wildest expectations."
Ray Nicolaides
“"Everyone is very impressed with the finished result and I thought I would just take the opportunity of belatedly giving my thanks to you and your team for a job very well done. I have submitted the bridge for a Civic Society award for next year and have every expectation of its success."
