Exceptional frames
for inspirational homes

Elevate your fitness routine with an oak framed pool house.

Pool Buildings

Whether it’s a heated oak framed pool barn for
your daily swim, or a stylish spot where you can
change or relax before and after a swim.

Durable oak beams and traditional oak framing techniques create an elegant space that will withstand the humidity of an indoor pool and the vagaries of the British climate.

At Green Oak Carpentry, every oak framed pool house is designed in-house before being handcrafted by our team in our workshops. With over 30 years of experience and a record of three Gold Wood Awards, we bring the same depth of craft and care to every project, working with you from the first drawing to the final assembly to create something truly individual.

What is a pool building?

What is a pool building?

A pool house is a building that’s purpose-built for a swimming pool. It typically includes changing facilities, equipment storage, and a place to relax. At its simplest, a pool house sits next to an outdoor pool as somewhere to change, shelter, or simply spend time together

A pool house can also enclose the pool itself – creating a protected space that, when heated, can be used all year round. Sometimes referred to as a pool barn, it may include changing rooms, plant rooms and relaxation spaces as well as the pool.

How can you use an oak framed pool building?

An oak framed pool house allows
you to get the most out of your
swimming pool all year round.

A fitness studio where you can lift weights, practice your pull-ups or salute the sun

A sauna and steam room – especially welcome during the chilly winter months

A changing room, shower and WC, making it easier to get dressed after your swim

A small kitchen or bar area, perfect as a base for hosting parties and gatherings

Generous pivot or bifold doors that open your pool to the garden on hot summer days

However you choose to use your oak framed orangery, you’ll have somewhere you can connect with nature, appreciate your garden and enjoy the view.

Never repeated. Always remarkable

Every Green Oak Carpentry pool barn is
an original – we don’t work to set
design templates, nor do we build the
same thing twice.

We’ll work with you create an oak-framed pool house that complements your home and grounds by considering factors such as proportion, roof pitch and glazing. If we’re accommodating an existing pool, our designers will ensure your oak frame pool house looks and feels as if it’s always been there. And if you’re commissioning a completely new pool house, we’ll work with you to create exactly what you want and can suggest extra details to make it feel even more special.

Our fully bespoke approach accommodates your site’s idiosyncrasies – taking advantage of opportunities while managing any constraints. And, as you’d expect, we’ll work in line with local planning considerations and respect your budget.

Our materials

Oak is a popular choice for pool houses, but it isn’t always the best choice for a project. We work with you to choose the right materials, based on your site, aesthetic goals and engineering requirements. We only use sustainably sourced materials.

Fabrication

Each oak frame pool house is handcrafted from start to finish by our same team of award-winning carpenters. Using skills practised since the Middle Ages, they scribe the naturally shaped components together, making each frame unique.

Build & installation

After dry-fitting your oak frame in our workshop, our carpenters deconstruct it, deliver it on-site, and personally assemble it. Using the same team throughout build and assembly creates a rare level of consistency, giving your frame unsurpassed care and respect.

Bespoke finishes & specifications

We’ll work with you to agree on the best finishing options and specifications for your finished oak frame pool house. This will allow you to appreciate the beauty of this celebrated natural material while complementing your aesthetic.

The Green Oak Carpentry guarantee

All our frames carry a warranty against defective workmanship and materials for six years. Problems are very rare, but if they do occur, we take them very seriously and do our utmost to ensure all is well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Planning your pool house

What are the benefits of choosing an oak frame for a pool building?

An oak frame is ideal for pool buildings because the pool’s humidity helps the wood season slowly, enhancing its durability. Oak also offers better acoustics than materials like metal or plaster, creating a more pleasant and tranquil environment where you can swim and relax.

Can you customise the design of my oak frame pool house to match my existing property?

Yes, our team of talented architects and designers will design an oak frame pool house that’s fully tailored to your property and requirements. Take a look at our gallery to see the variety of oak frame pool houses we’ve built for other clients.

What is the typical timeline and process for designing and building a pool barn?

There’s no such thing as a ‘typical’ timeline, because each project is so different. However, a pool barn design would take between 4-6 weeks, including detailed design drawings and engineer sign-off. Timber procurement, fabrication and assembly could then take a further 8+ weeks, depending on the size of the project. Learn more about how we work.

Every project is a one-off

No templates. No repeat designs. Every frame
we have ever made has started from scratch.

“There is a quality and soul in your work that is distinctly different from the mass production oak fabricators. One feels it in your buildings, in my home and Ricks and especially at the Chithurst Monastery which I have visited many times.”
