Enduring elegance,
crafted in oak
Invite natural light deep into your home by extending it with an oak conservatory.
Conservatories
The understated elegance of green oak instinctively
connects your conservatory to the natural world,
helping add a relaxed atmosphere to your
home throughout the year.
At Green Oak Carpentry, we design each oak framed conservatory in-house before it is handcrafted by our skilled carpenters. With three decades of experience and a record three Gold Wood Awards, we bring craft and care to every project, working with you from the first drawing to the final assembly to create a beautifully unique oak framed conservatory.
What is a conservatory?
What is a conservatory?
Conservatories were originally created as indoor spaces for overwintering tender plants and housing exotic specimens – resulting in their generous glazing on walls and roof. Today, oak frame conservatories are used for a multitude of purposes and are valued for the way they blur the boundary between indoors and out, flooding a space with natural light.
How can you use an oak framed conservatory?
Oak-framed conservatories are versatile,
beautiful spaces that add space,
light and value to your home
A bright and airy kitchen extension where everyone wants to gather
A serene living room area surrounded by your beautiful garden and the views beyond
A robust play area, perfect for the rough and tumble of everyday family life
A tranquil retreat in which to read, meditate, birdwatch, stargaze…
An extension that opens up a small living area and floods it with light
However you choose to use your oak framed conservatory, you’ll have a beautiful and flexible new space that gracefully connects with the world outside.
Never repeated. Always remarkable
Every Green Oak Carpentry conservatory is
an original – we don’t work to set
design templates, nor do we build the
same thing twice.
We’ll work with you to create an oak-framed conservatory that works with your home’s character by considering details such as proportion and roof pitch. Our designers will make sure your new oak frame conservatory integrates with your home’s layout and flow, enhancing the way you live while considering what lies ahead.
Our fully bespoke approach accommodates your site’s idiosyncrasies – taking advantage of opportunities while managing any constraints. And, as you’d expect, we’ll work in line with local planning considerations and respect your budget.
Quality & craftsmanship
without compromise
Enjoy an unsurpassed level of continuity throughout the design, build and installation of your oak frame conservatory. We guide you through your entire project, allowing you to enjoy the unique process of commissioning an oak frame building.
Design & architectural development
Our in-house draughtsmen and frame designers bring your vision to life, combining structural integrity with architectural beauty. Our designers readily accommodate unconventional ideas and specific features, and can incorporate any number of custom-designed features.
If, instead, you’ve already commissioned an architect, we’ll readily work with them and can adapt existing drawings to ensure your plans are suitable for oak framing.
Planning support
Our trusted planning consultants are here to support your planning permission application and are particularly experienced in heritage projects and sensitive sites.
Our materials
Oak is a popular choice for conservatories, but it isn’t always the best choice for a project. We work with you to choose the right materials, based on your site, aesthetic goals and engineering requirements. We only use sustainably sourced materials.
Fabrication
Each oak frame conservatory is handcrafted from start to finish by our same team of award-winning carpenters. Using skills practised since the Middle Ages, they scribe the naturally shaped components together, making each frame unique.
Build & installation
After dry-fitting your oak frame in our workshop, our carpenters deconstruct it and deliver it on-site before personally assembling it. Using the same team throughout build and assembly creates a rare level of consistency, giving your frame unsurpassed care and respect.
Bespoke finishes & specifications
We’ll work with you to agree on the best finishing options and specifications for your finished oak frame conservatory. This will allow you to appreciate the beauty of this celebrated natural material while complementing your aesthetic.
The Green Oak Carpentry guarantee
All our frames carry a warranty against defective workmanship and materials for six years. Problems are very rare, but if they do occur, we take them very seriously and do our utmost to ensure all is well.

A naturally
sustainable choice
Oak is a natural, renewable material with exceptional longevity. When properly detailed and crafted, an oak framed conservatory matures beautifully, developing an individual character and long-standing structural integrity.
A Green Oak Carpentry conservatory is built with sustainability at its core. All wood – whether oak or another hardwood – will be sustainably grown and harvested. Crucially, it will meet PEFC’s strict chain-of-custody certification requirements, demonstrating our sustainability commitment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Planning your conservatory
What are the benefits of an oak framed conservatory?
An oak framed conservatory is a beautiful structure with a tactile, simple elegance. Because our oak conservatories are fully bespoke, they complement each home perfectly. Oak is an excellent insulator and helps control humidity, creating a healthier living environment.
Our oak frame conservatories are craftsman-built and erected, making them exceptionally durable and a reassuring investment. They’re also a better choice for the planet than many conservatories made with other materials. Our PEFC-certified oak comes from Normandy, in France and is grown in well-maintained forests. It has a minimal impact on the environment, and, as a fully natural product, when it eventually needs to be replaced, it will biodegrade and return to the soil.
Do you need planning permission for an oak framed conservatory?
Whether or not you need planning permission for an oak frame conservatory depends on where your house is and whether you’ve previously extended your home. We can support you with this – our trusted planning consultants can help you decide the best way forward.
How long does it take to build a bespoke oak conservatory?
Each project is different, but you should allow a minimum of 16 weeks from initial approvals for us to design and build your oak conservatory. Once built, installation is fast – you can expect us to install your oak frame in one or two days, ready for your builders to complete. Find out more about how we work.
Every project is a one-off
