Originally created as specialist rooms in which to overwinter precious citrus trees, orangeries bring the outdoors in and flood interiors with light. Today’s oak frame orangeries combine an oak frame and brickwork with expansive glazing and a central glazed lantern, creating a light-filled space.
Oak framed orangeries tend to feel more substantial than conservatories. The oak frame provides structure and character, while craftsman-installed glazing invites natural light deep into the home. Fabrication
Each oak frame orangery is handcrafted from start to finish by our same team of award-winning carpenters. Using skills practised since the Middle Ages, they scribe the naturally shaped components together, making each frame unique.
Build & installation
After dry-fitting your oak frame in our workshop, our carpenters deconstruct it, deliver it on-site, and personally assemble it. Using the same team throughout build and assembly creates a rare level of consistency, giving your frame unsurpassed care and respect.
Bespoke finishes & specifications
We’ll work with you to agree on the best finishing options and specifications for your finished oak frame orangery. This will allow you to appreciate the beauty of this celebrated natural material while complementing your aesthetic.

Planning your orangery
What is the difference between an orangery and a conservatory?
Although the terms orangery and conservatory are often used interchangeably, they’re not the same thing. An orangery is more substantial than a conservatory and feels more like a building extension. They typically have brick walls that reach halfway up, expansive glazing, a solid roof, and a glass ‘lantern’ through which you can see the sky. In contrast, a conservatory is mostly glass on both the walls and the ceiling.
Are orangeries warmer than conservatories?
During winter, a well-built orangery will be warmer than a conservatory because of its more solid construction, which helps insulate the room. In summer, an orangery will be cooler than a conservatory as the solid roof and brick-built walls help prevent excessive solar gain.
Do I need planning permission for an orangery?
